The Djoloff Humanity Foundation is devoted to direct effective actions where the needs are urgent and substantial.
PREVENTIVE CARE
The prevalence of diabetes and arterial hypertension are respectively 3.4 and 27.5% in Senegal. These pathologies have a considerable impact on renal function and are the primary causes of chronic renal failure. The adequate management of this kidney disease is based on kidney transplants unfortunately unavailable in Senegal today.
Dialysis remains the only therapeutic alternative offered but is extremely expensive (about $400 a week) for an indefinite period. Since the majority of the Senegalese population cannot afford the cost of dialysis, preventative care is the principal weapon to manage kidney disease and some of the associated complications as follows:
Offer Chronic Disease Screening
Any diabetic and/or hypertensive patient is included regardless of age.
Screening is offered to adults from age 25 to 60.
Screening is offered to adults from 20 to 50 years. This is a quarterly campaign targeting people at risk with well-defined inclusion criteria.
STRENGTHEN HEALTH CARE CENTER
Equipment Supplies
Strengthen Specialized Consultation
Hire an Anesthesiologist The Healthcare Center is quite in demand and serves several surrounding villages. The Healthcare Center has an operating room that is currently equipped but non-functional due to lack of an anesthesiologist. Hence, women giving birth with complications are currently evacuated to the regional hospital located about 75 miles. This situation is causing too many women in Djoloff to either lose their lives or their unborn babies. Therefore, since the hospital nor the town can afford to hire an anesthesiologist, we deem it necessary to hire one temporary anesthesiologist until the Government assigns one to the Healthcare Center. Construction of Space For Visitors And Accompanying PersonsIn Senegal, hospitalized patients must be accompanied by one or more family members staying in the hospital in the same manner as the patients. The hospital cannot accommodate these visitors/accompanying persons. The people tend to sleep on the hospital hallway floors or wherever they can rest their heads. Hence, in order to facilitate their stay at the hospital, construction of a waiting area is needed.

The Djoloff Humanity Foundation supports patients with limited resources by covering the cost for: patient treatment by buying medicine for people who cannot afford it; and when necessary, covering the cost for patients needing urgent hospital care who are not able to pay for it.
